Wildgate, New Game and Big Names

March 28, 2025

Many people may have noticed a new game making a marketing push, and its grabbed some intrigue, Wildgate.

What is Wildgate, and Why Should You Care?

Great question, gamer! Wildgate grabbed my attention because it looks like it’s adding fresh elements to the looter extraction genre. If done right, it could be a blast on multiple levels. The art style immediately gives me vibes of Wildstar—from the vibrant narration to the quirky characters. While Wildstar had a bittersweet ending, it was beloved by many, and Wildgate seems to channel that same kind of charm and personality. It’s always exciting to see something break away from the mold.

But the real reason I’m excited about Wildgate? It’s who’s behind it. The game looks polished, even in this early marketing phase, but what really caught my eye is that Dreamhaven and Moonshot Studios are leading the charge.

A Dream Team Behind Wildgate

Dreamhaven is led by none other than Mike Morhaime, a veteran of the industry and a co-founder of Blizzard during its golden era. He was at the helm when Blizzard tackled difficult projects, iterated on groundbreaking ideas, and brought fresh concepts to the table. Dreamhaven has been quietly operating for a while now, and Wildgate looks to be one of its first major releases. With a team of seasoned developers and designers backing this project, you’d be a fool to underestimate its potential.

But potential is all we have for now—until we get our hands on playtests, gameplay footage, and all the juicy details that come with more information!

What We Know So Far

The reveal trailer gave us a good amount to chew on, and some content creators have even had early access to play. While their scripts and talking points don’t give me a full sense of how good the game will actually be, I’m still pretty optimistic based on what I’ve seen.

Wildgate is shaping up to be a PvPvE looter extraction game where players team up in groups of four and enter The Reach. The game follows a matchmaking format, with a pre-game lobby where you can check out the other teams and players—something I’ve seen popping up in several games recently, and I’m loving the added social aspect.

But what’s got me really hyped? No other looter extraction game has gone down this kind of sci-fi route, let alone one where you get to crew a battleship together. Talk about an epic battle arena! If they nail the combat and pacing, this has the potential to be more than just the next flavor of the month. It could have some serious staying power.

Combat That Feels Familiar… in a Good Way

At first glance, the combat gives me serious Overwatch vibes—which is always a good thing. It’s a very different pace from something like Counter-Strike, even though both games are group-oriented. Wildgate seems to focus on fast-paced, cooperative gameplay where teamwork is absolutely vital.

A World of Possibilities

The looter extraction genre is growing fast, and it’s great to see developers experimenting with new ideas. Wildgate shows a lot of promise by incorporating ship-based gameplay. I’ve seen some comparisons to Sea of Thieves, but aside from the concept of having a crew and a ship, the similarities pretty much stop there. Sea of Thieves operates in an open-world format, whereas Wildgate will follow a matchmaking-based system.

The possibilities seem endless—from customizing your character’s loadout, weapons, and abilities to tweaking the loadout of your ship. The layers of strategy on top of the fast-paced looter-shooter action are shaping up to be wild—and I’m here for it.

Final Thoughts

With Dreamhaven and Moonshot Studios steering the ship, Wildgate has all the makings of something special. While we still need to see more gameplay and get hands-on impressions, the foundation looks solid. If they can deliver on the promise of fast, team-oriented combat and deep strategy, Wildgate might just be the next big thing in the looter extraction space.

Strap in, gamers. This one looks like it’s going to be a wild ride.
