The upcoming Ashlands biome in Valheim, set to release in the first half of 2024, and promises to be an exciting addition to the game. This new biome looks to be a fiery region with extreme temperatures and volcanic landscapes. It will be a significant chunk of land located in the southern part of the map, distinct from the smaller islands that make up other biomes in the game.
New monsters and new challenges
As for the challenges and enemies awaiting players in the Ashlands, there are several intriguing new features. Players can expect to encounter new enemy types, including the Charred, which are skeleton warriors with fiery hearts, and the Morgen, a terrifying creature with skulls lining its gaping mouth. Additionally, the massive Bonemaw Serpent, residing in the region’s waters, is another formidable creature teased for this biome.
The development team has talked about mixing it up a bit, so the update will also introduce some new gameplay elements and biome progression on top of new items. Players will find new dishes like Mashed Meat, Piquant Pie, and Spicy Marmalade, made from plants unique to the Ashlands. The update will also feature new armor and siege engines designed for breaching Ashlands fortresses. And of course a biome boss to find and defeat.
More to come in the future
Iron Gate, the developer of Valheim, is also working on other content and features, such as new difficulty settings, improved accessibility, and recently pushed out an update called Hildir’s Quest. This added some awesome content to the mid game.
The Ashlands update is part of Iron Gate’s continued commitment to enhancing and expanding the Valheim experience, and the developer is taking a more open approach to sharing details about the biome’s development.
